Check Mykad On Receipt and Get Print Out

WHY CARE Ab. Not "Christian" in MyCard...

Please circulate the below experience to other Christians:

When you collect your new Mykad, you are entitled to:

1) Request for an immediate print out: of the contents of the Mykad. So please request for it and check the particulars are entered correctly. My daughter's andwife's religion was listed as "Buddhist" when I checked the print out.

2)Then asked the officer to remedy it: Make sure that the officer remedy the error by entering the correct information into the computer and get a print out to check again.

3)Surrender backyour Mykad to the officer for them to correct the information in the Mykad and get an acknowledgement for the Mykad surrendered.

If you do not do it there and then, and if you were to do it much later, they will charge you for a mistake made by the officer!!!

Many cases have been reported that Chinese are automatically describedas Buddhists and Indians as Hindus in the National Registration Department's (NRD) database. This could have serious repercussions on the Christian community as its misrepresents the size of the Christian community and undermine the political clout of Christians in their participation in nation-building.

For Christians applying for the new Mykad (or applying for theirchildren), they are advised to inquire and ensure that their religion(or their child's religion) is stated clearly as Christians. If it is wrongly stated, please follow the procedure set out in the pressstatement below.

Dad, not minor, should sign form, says NRD

PUTRAJAYA, Tues. - The National Registration Department requires thefather of a minor to sign a declaration form if the child's religiondiffers from what is stated in the NRD database.

NRD public relations officer Jainisah Mohd Noor said this procedure wasnecessary for the department's documentation.

She was responding to a case reported in the New Straits Times lastweek, in which a 17 -year-old boy who was applying for his MyKad wasasked to declare that he had changed his religion willingly toChristianity. NRD records show that he is a Buddhist. Both the boy'sparents are Christians.

The boy's father, Ng Kam Weng, had refused to let his son sign the form,claiming that his son had been a Christian since birth and as a minor,his religion was decided by his parents.

"The boy should not have been asked to sign the declaration," Jainisahtold the NST. "Only his father ne~~ds to. Perhaps there was some confusion on the part of our counter staff."

Only a name-change as a result of religious conversion requires anapplication. Otherwise, individuals only need to declare their religionin a form.

Jainisah said information in the NRD database was taken from birth certificates. She said if Ng and his wife had declared themselves as Christians in their son's birth certificate, their child should havebeen similarly listed in the database."

If there is a discrepancy, the only way we can check is with the boy'sidentity card number."She asked Ng to contact the NRD's public relations department at03-88807077 with his son's IC number.
